Jan Nayak Swargiya Ch. Bhajan Lal was unarguably
one of the most prolific political figures of the 20th Century. He
was a three-time Chief Minister of Haryana and served as a Union Minister at
the Centre. He was born on October 6th 1930 and received his formal
education at Bahwal Nagar, which is now a part of Pakistan. He is married to
Smt. Jasma Devi and is blessed with two sons, Ch. Chander Mohan and Ch. Kuldeep
Bishnoi.
Kuldeep
Bishnoi’s brother, Chander Mohan is an active politician within the HJC
(BL) party in the polity of Haryana while Kuldeep Bishnoi is a Member of
Parliament, Lok Sabha and also serves as the President of the Haryana Janhit
Congress (BL) Party.
The HJC (BL) was launched by Jan Nayak Ch. Bhajan
Lal and Ch. Kuldeep Bishnoi on December 2nd 2007 with the intention
to offer a people-centric political dais from where the people of Haryana can
share their disillusionment with the present anti-people policies of the ruling
Congress Government and voice their concerns on the injustice metted to them.
Jan Nayak Ch. Bhajan Lal was a farmer by profession
and belonged to a family of agriculturist background. He started his career
from a meager beginning, with no political ties to his credit, and went on to
become one of the most successful politicians in the political hierarchy of
Haryana. He was elected as a Sarpanch followed by being elected as the Chairman
of the Panchayat Samiti (Hisar) for 5 years and later became the President of
the Congress Mandal (Hisar) for 4 years.
Sadly, Jan Nayak Ch. Bhajan Lal ji passed on 3rd
June 2013 leaving behind a legacy of political expertise and heritage for all
to follow. His funeral was well-attended with prominent personalities and
political dignitaries present to offer their condolences.
During his political activism of over 40 years, Jan
Nayak Swargiya Ch. Bhajan Lal has distinguished himself as a true nationalist
and an able and committed administrator and even held the Agriculture and
Environments & Forest portfolios during Rajiv Gandhi's administration. He
was dotingly referred to as the ‘Chanakya’
of the 20th Century meaning ‘the
great scholar’ and will always be remembered as one of the foremost
architects of modern Haryana who fought tirelessly for the causes of the
deprived and underprivileged.
